VIDEO ASSISTED REFEREE(VAR), CONTRIBUTION OR CONTROVERSY?
FIFA has recently introduced the Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) into football, and its introduction has been greeted with positive and negative views alike. This is rightly so as evidenced in the FIFA Confederation Cup where it was first used in a major tournament. Notably in the match in Group A featuring Portugal and Mexico where the Portuguese and Mexicans both felt hard done by the use of the Video replay system as the Referee had to consult it when taking a major decision. One cannot help but toe the line of thought of producing Referees that seem unable to carry out basic decisions in a game.I cannot help but picture a World Cup Final with the Referee having to go the Video replay to confirm if a last minute goal will stand or not. This will certainly kill the rush of adrenaline in fans, and we all know that this is what we love and live for in every single second of Football.
